Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Supercar ready for testing

Jaguar are ready to start road testing the C-X75 hybrid supercar next month with a 2014 launch target.

Jaguar Land Rover are continuing to move strongly forward with new cars like the 2013 Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque and XF Sportbrake.

But for a car maker with aspirations of being one of the leading luxury and performance marques in the world, a halo supercar is a must and Jaguar are looking to the C-X75 hybrid supercar to be their Ferrari F70 or Porsche 918 Spyder.

From an initial reveal in 2010 as a gas turbine, electrically driven 780bhp supercar, the C-X75 has transformed in to a more production possible hybrid with two axial-flux electric motors, one on each axle, working together with a 1.6 litre turbocharged and supercharged four cylinder engine (developed with Williams F1) that runs to 10,000rpm and produces 500bhp.

All that clever tech wrapped up in a glorious body promises much, but however hard Jaguar has tried to make sure all the components work properly there is no way of knowing how they’ll work in conjunction with each other in the real world.

So Jaguar are putting five C-X75s on the road to test, test and test again to make sure there are no issues – particularly cooling, which is often a problem on high performance supercars – and that the C-X75 can really deliver its sub-3 second 0-62mph, 0-100mph in under 6 seconds and EV range of 40 miles, without issue.

Assuming that Jaguar don’t run in to a brick wall of problems once the C-X75 hits the road, Jaguar are expecting to bring the C-X75 to market in 2014 at around £800k (+vat) with a production run of 200 cars.
