Jaguar F-Type Coupe revealed – sort of
Fri, 03 May 2013But, as expected, Jaguar are heading full tilt towards a production F-Type Coupe that will follow the lines of the appealing CX-16, as evidenced by the patent image filings (above) acquired by Auto Motor und Sport.
The show an F-Type Coupe that delivers almost all of the style the CX-16 did – just as Land Rover managed when they turned the LRX in to the Range Rover Evoque – which will disappoint no one. In fact, the coupe – with its roof line flowing down from the A-pillar right to the tail – is better looking than the Roadster and more evocative of the E-Type.
Whether Jaguar will deliver the F-Type Coupe complete with side-opening hatch – just like the E-Type – we can’t tell from these drawings, but just about everything else seems to be in place for a potentially more hard-core F-Type, with an F-Type R – with the 550bhp or so the XJR, XFR-S and XKR-S get – a distinct possibility.
But what’s also a possibility is a new entry-level F-Type coupe with the 2.0 litre Si engine Land Rover use in the Evoque, and if the CX-16 is anything to go by we could also see the F-Type Coupe arriving with the option of a KERS hybrid version of the V6 S with an extra 93bhp on tap and performance almost as good as the V8 S, but with stellar mpg.
We could see the Jaguar F-Type Coupe arrive as soon as Frankfurt in September, but we may have to wait until Geneva 2014. But it looks like it will be worth the wait.
