Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake for Geneva debut
Mon, 24 Feb 2014This leaked photo seems to be a new Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
It seems Ian Callum was right all along about an XFR Sportbrake – it now looks like Jaguar are about to go one step further than an XFR Estate with a Full Monty Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake. When Jaguar revealed the XF Sportbrake two years ago they said there would be no four-wheel-drive variants and no XFR Sportbrake either (even though Ian Callum said in 2011 there would be an XFR Sportbrake), so for the last two yeare we’ve had just diesel engine options for the XF Sportbrake. But not for much longer it would seem.
Autocar are reporting that the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbarke complete not with the regular XFR’s 504vho Supercharged V8 but with Jaguar’s most potent 542bhp version – will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Performance is likely to be impressive – even if it would have been a more practical proposition, and more dsrivable, with 4WD instead of RWD – with a 0-62mpg around 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 180mph, but the performance will come at a price – over £80,000.
That’s a big jump in performance and price over the current range-topping XF Sportbrake – the 3.0 litre diesel S – but the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake makes a far better halo car for Jaguar and its ETO Division.
