If you’ve ever driven a Jaguar XJ in any amount of snow, you’ll know it’s pretty useless. You need a handy supply of snow socks and winter tyres too if you’re going to make any length of journey in seriously cold and snowy conditions without stopping to dig yourself out at regular intervals. But Jaguar now has an XJ that can tackle poor and snowy conditions in the AWD XJ (although, sadly, it’s not on sale in the UK) so they’ve headed out on a 2,000 mile round trip in temperatures down to -50 degrees to show that the 4WD XJ just keeps on going.

All wheel drive for the XJ should mean bigger sales for Jaguar in areas like Canada and America’s snow belt in the North East, and this video of the 4WD XJ on some of the worst roads – and some of the lowest temperatures Canada can boast – sees the XJ coping well.

So far, Jaguar are only offering the 4WD on the XJ fitted with the new 3.0 litre V6 S/C petrol (it won’t currently fit on the 5.0 litre S/C or 3.0 litre diesel) and we’ll have to wait for the next generation XJ before the range gets extended and, hopefully, the UK gets the option too.

Until then, just watch and weep if you’re going to end up driving your XJ on snowy roads in the UK this year.
