Jaguar brings one-off XKR, Gentilozzi rocket to Goodwood
Wed, 01 Jul 2009Jaguar will have an auspicious presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend: it's bringing a one-off, lime green XKR and the record-breaking XFR driven by Paul Gentilozzi at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
The one-off XKR is called the Goodwood Special and is based on a 2010 model-year car. It has 21-inch wheels, a lowered ride height and a louder exhaust system. It also gets satin graphite detailing on the front grilles, headlights, door mirrors and other parts--as well as the eye-catching paint scheme.
The company says Goodwood allows it to “explore the harder side of the XKR's character.” Mike Cross, Jaguar's chief engineer of vehicle integrity, will drive the car.

The Jaguar XFR that Paul Gentilozzi ran to 225.675 mph is also going to Goodwood.
Gentilozzi will drive the XFR--but probably not as fast as he did during the 225.675-mph romp he made in Utah last November. To get it to reach that speed, Jaguar engineers gave it a remapped ECU, a modified air intake and exhaust and a revised supercharger. The engine internals are unchanged from the production car, and it retains the stock six-speed automatic.
Gentilozzi had five series wins in Trans-Am racing in 2001-06.
The company will also be well represented by its past at Goodwood with a long-nose D-Type that won at Le Mans in 1957 and was third at Sebring.
A Le Mans-winning C-Type and an XJ13, which has a 502-bhp V12 and is considered one of the most handsome Jaguar racers ever, also will be at Goodwood.
The event runs July 3-5 in West Sussex, England, on the grounds of the Goodwood House. The main feature is when the classic racers drive up the 1.16-mile hill course.
