Jaguar: Geneva Motor Show 2013

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

Jaguar has the European debut of the new Jaguar XFR-S, the new F-Type, classic Jaguars and the trailer for the Jaguar F-Type film by Ridley Scott.

It’s a relatively quiet Geneva Motor Show for Jaguar with nothing really new to shout about, but there is one European debut, the new Jaguar XFR-S, and the nest instalment in the F-Type’s ongoing PR assault with a final trailer for the F-Type film by Ridley Scott.

The Jaguar XF cobbled together to take a bit more of a fight to the new BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG than the XFR can manage – the Jaguar XFR-S – gets its European debut at Geneva.

With the same tweaks to the engine as the XKR-S got, the XFR-S can muster 542bhp from its 5.0 litre supercharged V8, enough for a 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 186mph. Still not up there with the M5, E63 or RS6 Avant, but the Jaguar XF does make you smile in a way the Germans don’t.

Also on show is the Jaguar F-Type – fresh from the F-Type Sprint Tests in Jabbeke where the V8S F-Type managed a 0-179-0mph sprint on a 2 mile closed section of road after which it joined a convoy of classic Jaguars -  Jaguar XK 120, C-type, D-type and E-type – for a drive from Belgium to Geneva to take their place on the Jaguar stand at Geneva.

Finally, Jaguar is promoting a new film – Desire – produced by Ridley Scott Associates, starring Damian Lewis and featuring a soundtrack by Lana Del Rey, to keep the F-Type publicity rolling along (the video trailer for ‘Desire’ is below).

Not the most exciting outing at Geneva for Jaguar (2012 saw the XF Sportbrake launch) but it’s good to see the XFR-S and the F-Type flying the Jaguar flag in Geneva.

Maybe, just maybe, there will be something new for the New York Auto Show in a few weeks to go along with Land Rover’s debut of the 2014 Range Rover Sport.
