July 23: Planning for the trip
Fri, 23 Jul 2010
Having an EV with a range of 50-70 miles sometimes requires innovation. It certainly requires some planning. Today I had to drive 83.7 miles for, of all things, a ride in the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. Our minivan was already out, parked on a separate mission 13.7 miles away. But it was parked on the way to the Wienermobile. So I took the i MiEV to where the minivan was, swapped cars, did the 28-mile trip to the Wienermobile, came back 28 miles, swapped the minivan back for the i MiEV and drove the rest of the way to work. So the i MiEV was used for 30.5 miles of the trip, the minivan for 56 miles.
Almost all things are possible, or at least a lot of things are possible, a lot more than you might have thought, but sometimes require some planning.
