Kentucky bourbon-powered car: Because gas isn't expensive enough
Mon, 25 Apr 2011We're filing this one under “urban legends” until we get further confirmation, but a Kentucky man has reportedly built a homemade car that runs on bourbon whiskey.
Why would 62-year-old Mickey Nilsson of Bardstown do such a thing? He allegedly was inspired by the movie Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang and by the hosts of the reality-TV show American Pickers. The latter, Nilsson claims, “stopped by here trying to steal from me.”
While the technical challenges of building a car that runs on ethanol--and whatever else is in bourbon--wouldn't be particularly difficult, we still question the motive. We're attempting to get more information from the inventor.
As for fuel, Nilsson's creation is said to have a preference for Maker's Mark. In the bourbon world, would that be mid-grade or premium?
