Kia Pro_Cee’d GT & Cee’d GT to get 201bhp
Tue, 04 Dec 2012Kia has revealed that their warmed over hatch will come as both a 3-door Kia Pro_Cee’d GT and 5-door Kia Cee’d GT, both with a 201bhp turbo.
Last week we revealed that the Kia Pro_Cee’d GT is on its way in 2013 with a version of the 1.6 litre turbo found in the Hyundai Veloster Turbo, and upset Kia ion the process.
We upset Kia because we got the news a day ahead of their intended release and stole a bit of their thunder, but Kia are back with more news on the Cee’d to add to last week’s news, and this time they beat us to the latest news on their more sporty offerings.
Not only are Kia launching a Pro_Cee’d GT with three doors, but a regular Cee’d GT with five doors too – just as we revealed in October.
Kia has also revealed that their Turbo hatches will get 201bhp and 195lb/ft of torque – that’s the same torque as the Veloster Turbo but 17bhp more – which, say Kia, will be enough to propel the Cee’d GT and Pro_Cee’d GT to 62mph in 7.9 seconds, half a second quicker than the Veloster Turbo but a full second slower than the equally powerful MK 6 Golf GTI.
Kia are promising ‘significant developments to the chassis and suspension’ in order to make the GT models far more dynamic than the more prosaic Cee’ds
Cosmetically, the Pro_Cee’d GT and Cee’d GT will get a new nose with new grill, lights and bumpers, rear diffuser, special 18″ alloys, rear diffuser, red brake calipers, LED daytime lights and special paint finishes with the interior treated to Recaros, new materials for the dash and allot pedals.
Both the Cee’d GT and Pro_Cee’d GT will make their debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, go in to production in May 2013 and be on sale in Europe and the UK by summer 2013.
