Kia Proceed GT (2013) first specs of Kia's warm hatch

Here are the first official specifications of Kia's warm hatch, plus a new sketch: the Proceed GT. Following on from last week's sketch, Kia has confirmed the car will get over 200bhp, and boast a 7.9sec 0-62mph time.

With 201bhp, the Proceed GT sits a rung below the Focus ST and Vauxhall Astra VXR on the hot hatch ladder. Torque is also up in the new Kia, climbing to 195lb ft. Those figures represent 51% and 61% increases over the non-turbo 1.6-litre engine available in lesser Ceeds. Stronger engine internals and a twin-scroll turbocharger are responsible for the gains.

Kia plans to position the Proceed GT not as an outright hot hatch, but rather as a less extreme all-rounder: the hotter GT variants of the five-door Ceed and three-door Proceed are expected to cost around £21,000.

'It's more GT than GTI in terms of performance – it’s our first foray into this arena and we’re not gunning for the likes of the RS, Renaultsport and VXR models,' said a spokesman. 'But I think it certainly looks the part!'

Other alterations come in the shape on 18-inch wheels, a bodykit with red detailing and Recaro sports seats inside. For our earlier reports on the new Kia Proceed GT, click here.
