Kia Ray Concept at Chicago Motor Show
Thu, 21 Jan 2010Kia wil preview the Kia Ray Concept plug-in hybrid at the Chicago Motor Show next month
Yes, the Detroit Motor Show is only just about done, but waiting in the wings is the rather less fancy Chicago Motor Show (although they probably won’t thank us for describing it as such). But despite Chicago being a lower key affair than Detroit they will still get their share of new stuff. Well, not necessarily new (we reported that North America gets the BMW Alpina B7 which will debut at Chicago) but certainly new to the US.
But Kia are presenting the Kia Ray Concept which will be new. At least as a Kia. The underpinnings are probably the same as the Hyundai Will Concept which will form the powertrain basis for a Hyundai i40 Hybrid. But never mind, the Kia Ray is a new Concept.
The Ray Concept appears to be a four door saloon and may even have some sort of photo-voltaic roof judging by the picture, or that could just be a bit of Photoshop doodling. The Ray was designed at Kia’s Design Centre in the US and although they are clear it is a concept in design, the plug-in hybrid bit is a sign of the route Kia are taking.
We may get more gen on the Ray Concept when the Chicago Motor Show starts on 11th February. But this may be it. We’ll see.
