Kia Sorento SUV is recalled for problem with airbag sensor
Mon, 19 Sep 2011
Kia is recalling 10,631 Sorento SUVs because of a problem with the airbag sensor.
Sorento models made between June 15, 2006, and Nov. 27, 2007, might have a malfunctioning sensor for the front passenger seat, incorrectly classifying passengers in that seat as children and therefore deactivating their airbags. This presents a risk of injury to the front-seat passenger in the case of a frontal collision.
Deactivation of the airbag will trigger a "Passenger Air Bag Off" warning light. Owners of 2006-07 Kia Sorentos can go to their dealerships immediately to have their sensors recalibrated.
Customers can call the Kia hotline at (800) 333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at (888) 327-4236 for more information.
