Kimi Räikkönen to star at Festival of Speed

Tue, 10 Jun 2014

FORMULA One favourite Kimi Räikkönen has been confirmed as a star guest for the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The charismatic Finn will be at the famous Goodwood event as part of a wider celebration of motorsport heritage in conjunction with the Festival of Speed’s recently-announced chief sponsor, Shell.

As well as bringing F1 racer Räikkönen and supplying the ‘official fuel’ for the event, V-Power Nitro+ premium unleaded, Shell will celebrate the 50th anniversary of legendary British racer John Surtees’ Formula One World Championship victory with Scuderia Ferrari.

To commemorate this memorable milestone, Shell will present Surtees to the festival crowds at a special event on Sunday June 29 in the stunning grounds of the Goodwood House estate.

In a statement Shell said: “Shell partnered Surtees and Scuderia Ferrari to championship glory in 1964 and was Technical Partner of Scuderia Ferrari in 2007 during Räikkönen’s victorious Formula One campaign.

“This close relationship continues to this day and this year at Goodwood Shell will celebrate 100 years of continuous innovation, technology and passion for success, making this year’s theme – ‘Addicted to Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motorsport’ – all the more fitting.”

To prove that fuel innovation isn’t just about speed, the company will also showcase the work done by the Shell Eco-marathon – a global competition that encourages aspiring engineers and students to develop and create some of the most energy-efficient vehicles in the world.

Owner and resident of Goodwood House, Lord March said: “Shell has a long and distinguished history in motorsport and has provided the fuels technology behind world championship successes for many years.

“We are delighted to welcome Shell on board as a partner of the Festival of Speed and look forward to celebrating the Formula One World Championship achievements of Kimi Räikkönen and John Surtees.”
