Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – the new Murcielago

They could have chosen Matador or Toreador or Picador (or even Little White Bull). But rather than a bull fighter Lamborghini wanted a bull. We thought their bull of choice for the Murcialago’s replacement would be Jota. But it now seems it’s Aventador.
The latest name has emerged after Lamborghini had yet another private presentation of their new range-topping car, where big spenders are coaxed and cajoled to part with their bank details in exchange for an early car.
The Lamborghini Aventador (or even Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4) is – according to the usually well-informed guys at Jalopnik – the moniker of choice for the Murcielago’s replacement. Not the Lamborghini Jota, which we thought, but instead a bull named after ‘The bull of the Sons of Don Celestino Cuadri Vides’, in case it matters to you.
On most everything else it would seem the stories we’ve run on the Jota for the last year are pretty much on the money. The Aventador will have a 700hp V12 which will be enough to sling the Aventador at the horizon – well, 60mph – in well under 3 seconds, use lots of carbon fibre and be massively lighter than the Murci.
But of course all this could be Lamborghini flim-flam. It could be a daft Italian joke on the Matador or Toreador or Picador line; just as a diversion for the real name. Which could still be Jota.
Or not.
