Lamborghini Aventador Roadster takes to the air(strip)

Lamborghini kicked off its 10-day Aventador LP700-4 Roadster media launch and dealer-education program on Monday, and it started off with a bang. Actually, with a roar.

Five new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadsters took to the south runway of one of the busiest United States airports for a photo shoot, some video and some fun.

The marque received special authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration and a go-ahead from Miami-Dade County. The Bulls exceeded the passenger-jet takeoff speed, which on a runway is 150-180 mph. The Lambos clocked 210 mph.

The company was quick to point out in its press release that “due to integrated planning on behalf of Miami-Dade officials and the FAA, there was no impact on flight arrivals and departures.”

Personally, we'd taxi on a plane all day if the runway festivities included watching five Aventadors play on the tarmac.

The cars also posed for a photo shoot in front of a Boeing 777.

The party began with an unveiling at Lummus Park in Miami Beach, then the ceremonies continued with a 50-vehicle parade down Collins Avenue before heading to the airstrip.

“It has been a great pleasure to work with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and South Beach teams on today's amazing demonstrations. I have never seen something similar at a Lamborghini event,” said Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “The Aventador Roadster is our most exciting production car ever, and I can think of no better place to celebrate its launch than here in Miami.”

The Aventador was revealed in Geneva in 2011. It uses 700-hp V12 for motivation, achieving a top speed of 217 mph. We drove the car last year and found it to be stunning, to say the least. Our own Mark Vaughn will be at the Miami event with complete coverage to come.
