Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to get carbon fibre Targa roof

The Italian Motoring press are reporting that the new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster will get a carbon fibre Targa roof.
Lamborghini has always had a slightly cavalier attitude to the roadster roofs they put on their cars.
Even the range-topping Murcielago Roadster had an origami canvas top on a frame made of old coat hangers that took longer to put up than the passing shower you were trying to shelter from.
But it looks like things are going to improve on the new Aventador Roadster - which we confirmed was on its way last summer – with the useless canvas roof being replaced by a two-piece carbon fibre Targa top that will store under the bonnet.
It’s not that Lamborghini has felt a sudden need to make the top on the Aventador more usable (they reportedly said of the canvas top on the Murcielago, when challenged on its efficacy, that if it rained their customers took another car) but that using a Targa top is both lighter and easier.
In fact, by using a two-piece carbon fibre roof panel, Lamborghini will have to change very little about the Aventador to accommodate it, making the Aventador Roadster both more appealing and more cost-effective.
But just like the Ferrari 458 Spyder and the soon to arrive McLaren MP4-12C Spider, we do wonder why anyone would spec the coupe instead of the roadster now the open-topped cars are every bit as good as the coupe?
