Lamborghini Jota spied testing

The Murcielago range of Lamborghinis is coming to the end of their shelf life and we have in store the replacement – The Lamborghini Jota - which will be with us in the next year or so. So it’s not a big surprise that Lamborghini have been out testing the new Jota in the Arctic Circle.

As we can see from the spy shots, the Jota is going to be similar in size to the Murcielago (which is far too wide for comfort around town) but thanks to a new aluminium space frame will be an awful lot lighter than the Murcielago. Add that substantial weight reduction to the expected 700bhp the V12 in the Jota will deliver and we’ll have a Lamborghini that will probably break the 3 seconds 0-60mph.

In some ways it’s sad that the Murcielago is on the way out, as it’s the last of the true Lamborghinis – barking mad with just a small dose of Audi sensibleness dialled in. The hope is that the Jota will still be as mad as a hatter when it arrives – and the size and power would tend to indicate that – and it’s certainly taken some styling cues from the Reventon and Estoque.

What is also interesting with the Jota is that it could become the first hybrid Lamborghini. Lamborghini are on record as saying they will introduce a hynrid by 2015, and with the Jota dues to launch in 2012 this could be the first Lamborghini to get a hybrid powertrain.

Time will tell.
