Well it looks like we got it just about right when we brought you news of the new super-Murcielago – The Lamborghini Murcileago LP670-4 Super Veloce – a couple of weeks ago. Nice to be right sometimes!

Lamborghini has officially released details on the LP670-4 SV today at the Geneva Motor Show ’09, and just as we thought, it is the Murcielago to end all Murcielagos (which is about right, as it will be the last Murcielago Coupe – although we should still have the Murcielago LP-650-4 Roadster to look forward to). Lighter, more powerful, more ‘Lamborghini’ than anything from the boys from Sant’ Agata in a long, long time.

Lamborghini has described the LP670-4 SV as ‘Exceptionally Purist’, which does to a pretty good job of summing up this car. The LP 670-4 gets a power hike to 670bhp, with a useful chunk of torque – 487lb/ft. It is lighter, faster and more powerful than any previous Murcielago (including the Reventon) and boasts a 0-60mph of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 212mph with the standard spoiler (a high downforce version of the spoiler is available, but that lops 3mph of the top speed, but gives more downforce).

Lamborghini has taken a chunk of weight off the standard car, and the LP670-4 SV weighs in at some 220lbs less than the standard LP640. And the design is bang on the money.

None of the after-market looking body kit of the €1,000,000 Reventon, this is a pure and immensely pleasing shape. Up front there are bigger air intakes and more prominent front spoiler. The engine cover is a visual delight with its hexagonal transparent polymer plates. And inside the trim is entirely Alcantara with carbon fibre, with nice contrast stitching to match the paint job. The choice of colours for the LP670-4 SV are Giallo Orion, Arancio Atlas, Bianco Isis, Grigio Telesto and Nero Aldebaran, as well as Bianco Canopus and Nero Nemesis as an option. Stunning.

No word on price yet, but we expect something in the €350k + tax region. About 1/3rd the cost of the Reventon. An absolute bargain!

Update 05/03/09: We now know that, near as damn it, the UK list price for the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV is £275,000 including tax. Which makes it an even bigger bargain! But we are told that nearly all dealer allocations for the UK for this year have already been sold – so you’d better be quick!
