Land Rovers at greater risk of theft

Mon, 24 Mar 2014

RECENT BAD WEATHER means Land Rovers and other 4x4 vehicles are at greater risk of being stolen. Police in Derbyshire have even reported a crime spree, with 12 Land Rover vehicles stolen in their region between November 2013 and January 2014.

All police forces across the UK are urging owners of this type of vehicle to be extra vigilant and secure their vehicles. The rise in theft of this type of car is attributed to the prolonged period of bad weather in the UK during the winter, which has created unprecedented demand for cars that can cope with deep water and poor driving conditions.

Criminals are taking advantage of the demand from honest car buyers to make a quick profit by stealing desirable 4x4s and then selling them to unsuspecting buyers.

Adrian Davenport, Police Liaison Officer for stolen vehicle specialist recover firm Tracker, said: ‘We have already recovered a record 38 4x4 vehicles that have been stolen over the last two months. However, we encourage all vehicle owners to ensure they make it difficult for thieves, by taking precautions and investing in the right security measures.’
