Lincoln introduces Black Label trim at Pebble Beach

Thu, 15 Aug 2013

Lincoln introduced its hoity-toity Black Label Collection at Pebble Beach on Thursday. In the words of Jim Farley, “The new Lincoln Motor Company is built on three foundational elements -- design, quality and personal service; Black Label represents our highest expression of these elements.”

Lincoln says its Black Label dealers will collaborate to create a personal, integrated client shopping and ownership experience, with respect for the luxury of time.

We're not sure exactly what that means, but if the dealers can pick up the cars for gas, a wash and some fast food, that would be great.

There are three Black Label themes. Each one is coordinated in color and exterior and interior combinations.

“Center Stage” is inspired by fashion and theater. It features a Jet Black interior with a Foxfire red headliner. Lincoln says “it captures the drama of being in a dark theater with the impact of a rich, deep red accent color.” Alcantara adorns the doors and seats.

“Indulgence” is inspired by “the lure of premium chocolate.” Venetian leather with an antique finish adds richness. The Indulgence also gets Ziricote wood trim with a natural grain and color.

“Modern Heritage” uses a black and white palate with subtle red accents. Lincoln says it's designed for the client who appreciates a clean, modern aesthetic. It too features wood trim, with metal flake between the layers, creating a sparkling effect.

The Black Label trim was showcased on MKZ and the MKC Concept at Pebble Beach.

Lincoln seems to be doing its best Rolls-Royce impression with the new line. Its press release mentions the Venetian leather, custom made for Lincoln, which only 1 percent of hides globally qualify for. There's also a handful of time spent on the Ziricote wood, which is selected for its natural beauty, and is “often used in high-end yachts.”

We're pretty sure the company has a ways to go in rehabbing its image before it'll steal any sales from Bentley, Rolls or the now defunct Maybach. But there's no better time to start than on the hallowed and moneyed greens of Pebble Beach.

Lincoln Black Label will launch near the end of 2014.
