Local Motors Active Lifestyle Vehicle Challenge winner announced

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

The winner of the first Local Motors Active Lifestyle Vehicle Challenge has been revealed as John Bukasa, who won $1,500 for his CLIMAX design.

This was the first contest held as part of the annual Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards – which are in their tenth year – hosted by Carspondent, which celebrates the cars that best cater for people leading active lives. The brief challenged designers to develop a concept that enhances its owner's performance as an athlete or active adult/family.

The second- and third-placed entrants also took home prize money for their designs. Lucian Nicolae Acatrinei's ‘Hero' design earned him the second-place prize of $1,000, while ‘Workshop' by Xavier Gordillo came in third, earning him $500.

There were few limitations put on entries, but vehicles had to: be able to load one road bike; have an easily cleanable interior; have a night lighting system, especially around the cargo areas; have the ability to do light off-roading; and have the ability to camp in.

Bukasa's CLIMAX was chosen as the winner based on the votes from the Local Motors online community and the selections of Active Lifestyle Vehicle Athletes/Judges. These individuals – professional athletes and life-long advocates for active living – judged all entries on the aesthetic and functional components that fit their passion for an active lifestyle.

The winning design was announced at the Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year Award Ceremony held at the Local Motors Phoenix micro-factory.
