MG6 Diesel launches – price from £16,995
Fri, 21 Dec 2012The much needed diesel version of the MG6 has launched, offering a diesel engine in the new MG for the first time. Priced from £16,995.
The now Chinese-owned MG hasn’t had overwhelming success with its MG6 so far, but much of that can be put down to the lack of a diesel-engined offering in a marketplace that has become diesel obsessed.
But that’s now changed with the arrival the the MG6 Diesel, which offers a new 1.9 litre DTi-TECH Turbo diesel from SAIC which delivers 148bhp and 258lb/ft of torque, driven to the front wheels through a six-speed manual ’box.
It’s not exactly cutting-edge stuff, but the 1.9 litre diesel in the MG6 does offer similar power to Ford’s 2.0 litre TDCI in the Mondeo, and it’s also a bit quicker off the mark and a bit more frugal too.
MG quote performance for the MG6 Diesel at 8.9 seconds to 62mph (with a top speed of 120mph) with official economy of 53.5mpg, meaning emissions of 139g/km.
There’s a choice of four models in the MG6 Diesel range – MG6 GT S (£16,995), MG6 GT SE (£18,195), MG6 GT TSE (20,195)and MG6 Magnette )£21,195), with even the entry-level MG6 S offering a decent spec.
That spec includes ABS with EBD, Stability Control and Hill Hold, AirCon, electric windows, decent connectivity, fogs and a spoiler (well, it is an MG). Higher trim levels throw in more kit, with the SE getting SatNav with reversing camera, Cruise and parking sensors at the back and the TSE coming with leather, Climate, Bluetooth and 18″ alloys.
The MG6 Diesel is now available to order.
