MG6 gets 4 stars in Euro NCAP tests

Just a year ago Geely was making all the wrong headlines when the Geely CK1 scored zero in the Latin NCAP tests. But now, just a year later, the Geely Emgrand EC7 and the MG6 – both made in China – have scored four starts in the last set of Euro NCAP tests for 2011.

Apart from being a great result for China, it’s proof – if proof were ever needed – that the Chinese car industry is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Other four start results in the NCAP test included the Fiat Panda, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Renault’s electric Fluence ZE and the Jaguar XF.

It seems the Panda got four starts instead of five as it doesn’t have ESC, but as that’s mandatory from 2012 it seems best to consider it a five start car – just as long as you buy one next year.

Jeep were told by NCAP that they need to look at the seat rail as it almost broke in half in testing.

Other cars tested included the Kia Rio, Mercedes B Class, Mercedes C Class Coupe, Subaru XV, new Beetle and Range Rover Evoque – all of which got four stars – with the Beetle and Subaru XV being singled out for praise by NCAP for their excellent child protection.

Both cars received 90 per cent in the Child protection tests, the highest ever achieved in Euro NCAP testing.
