MINI Rolls Royce Edition confirmed
Thu, 19 Nov 2009The one-off MINI by Rolls Royce. Looks set to become a production model.
So what have we had from MINI already this year? We’ve had news of the Coupe and Roadster at Frankfurt; we had the Camden and Mayfair back in May; the MINI Graphite; MINI JCW 50th; JCW Cabrio; MINI One Clubman and the MINI First. And we shouldn’t forget the MINI E and we’ll almost get the MINI Countryman.
That’s at least a dozen new MINIs this year alone, and I’ve probably overlooked at least one or two. And now we have news that another is being built – The MINI Rolls Royce Edition.
It sounds like a barking mad plan – a MINI Rolls Royce – but it’s nothing new. Apart from the fact that the rumours of a MINI titivated by Rolls Royce have been circulating for a while (the picture at the top shows a MINI trimmed by Rolls Royce snapped at Rolls Royce Park Lane from earlier this year), the original Mini did something similar with coach building firms like Wood & Picket churning out one-off specials for celebs like the Beatles and Peter Sellers in the swinging sixties.

So I supposes you have to ask, why not? If there’s a demand – and the endless stream of limited edition MINIs seem to suggest there is – why not go as far overboard as you can?
But unlike those glory days of Wood & Picket the new MINI Rolls Royce would be a proper in-house customising service organised by BMW, with the new MINI going off to Rolls Royce to be trimmed in the clients choice of wood, leather and any amount of luxury the customer requires, before being delivered as a fully blown, factory fresh MINI Rolls Royce Edition.
Wonder who’ll hit £100k first for a MINI?
