Mazda will debut the three-door 2 at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. And while the five-door 2 hardly looks staid, and actually rather dynamic, the Japanese company is claiming the three-door will be even more sporty.
Quite how this will be achieved Mazda doesn’t say and is remaining tight lipped until nearer show time. We do know the three-door will definitely be light though. Mazda’s ‘gram strategy’ shaves weight from every possible area, and the company reckons the new five-door 2 has shed 100kg compared to its predecessor.
Engines for the three door will be 1.3 and 1.5-litre petrols and a 1.4-litre diesel, while prices should be about £500 cheaper than the five-door so expect a sub-£8k starting price.
Geneva will also see the European debuts of the facelifted RX-8, a Mazda 5 hydrogen hybrid, and the stunning Taiki concept car first seen at the Tokyo Motor Show in late 2007.
