Mazda MX-5 Yusho gets 238bhp
Tue, 05 Jun 2012The Mazda MX-5 Yusho Concept has been revealed at the the Leipzig Auto Show with 238bhp from a supercharged engine.
It’s not just the German car makers that have turned up to the Leipzig Auto Show with some interesting new cars, the Japanese have managed it to in the shape of the Mazda MX-4 Yusho Concept.
The MX-5 Yusho (Yusho means Victory in Japanese) is a supercharged and titivated version of the regular MX-5 with 17″ grey alloys, lowered suspension, a boot lid spoiler and carbon fibre rear diffuser. But the big news is under the skin.
Mazda have fitted a supercharger to the MX-5′s four-pot engine, added an intercooler, fitted Cosworth pistons and connecting rods, installed a sports exhaust and had a good go with their laptop and upped the power from the MX-5′s relatively modest 158bhp to a much more potent 238bhp.
Other changes include new injectors and sport Cats, a meatier clutch and gearbox, uprated suspension with bigger stabiliser bars, new shockers and lowered springs and a set of leather and Alcantara Recaros.
Mazda hasn’t seen fit to give us any performance figures, but with 50 per cent more power than a regular MX-5 the world’s favourite roadster will be capable of showing most hot hatches a clean pair of heels.
The Mazda MX-5 Yusho is labelled a Concept by Mazda, but it is possible they will see fit to produce a limited edition version as the current MX-5 moves towards the end of its shelf life.
