McLaren 12C Spider: Lots more new photos arrive
Sat, 13 Oct 2012The McLaren 12C Spider was revealed in July, but with just a handful of photos available. But now McLaren has rectified their photo count.
Even when the 12C Spider took its public bow at Pebble Beach in August there wasn’t anything new from McLaren’s snappers, and at the Paris Motor show all eyes were on the McLaren P1, so nothing more for the 12C Spider from there either.
But McLaren has finally been to Boots to pick up their snaps so we can glory in the 12C Spider in not just the launch colour of Volcano Red, but also in Azure Blue and the same Volcano Yellow the 12C Spider arrived in at the Tour of Elegance at Windsor Castle last month for its UK public debut (which, oddly, isn’t offered on the McLaren 12C Spider Configurator).
But however splendid the 12C Spider looks – and we think it looks more splendid as a spider than as the 12C Coupe – it’s what’s under the skin that matters. And that’s very good.
With 616bhp in its 2013 MY guise – and a ride quality control that makes the 12C Spider Supercar sharp or limo smooth as the whim takes – the 12C Spider can get to 62mph in just 3.1 seconds and on the way to 209mph. And it doesn’t matter whether the roof’s up or down – and you can go from roof open to roof closed in just 17 seconds at up to 20mph.
What’s not to love? Unless you count the price – £195,500 – which puts it out of the reach of most of us.
