McLaren MP4-12C GT3 racer spotted
Thu, 25 Nov 2010The McLaren MP4-12C GT3 spotted out testing
Yesterday we had the announcement that the McLaren MP4-12C will cost £168,500 when it goes on sale next year. We also had the rebuttal from Ferrari who told Cars UK that the Ferrari 458 Italia actually offered better value despite the apparent price difference. Now we have another reason for Ferrari and McLaren to bicker – the McLaren MP4-12C GT3.
McLaren plans to go racing with the MP4-12C and the GT3 version will be taking on the likes of the Mercedes SLS, Audi R8 LMS and, most importantly, the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.
The beauty of GT3 racing for car makers is that it’s relatively cheap – based as it is is firmly on production cars – but can attach huge kudos to the road-going version of the GT3 car. The MP4-12C GT3 still looks like its road-going sibling but sports a great big fixed wing at the back, there’s a big front splitter and the front air intakes have been blanked out. There are also winglets on the front bumper, although this could just be a bit of experimentation.
The McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is being developed for the track in collaboration with GT3 specialists CRS Racing.
