McLaren P1 – 0-124mph in under 7 seconds & just 375 P1s being built

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

The new McLaren P1 – to be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show – will hit 124mph in under 7 seconds. Just 375 being built.

McLaren say that the P1 – which we know has 903 bhp – will get to 62mph ‘under 3 seconds’, to 124mph in ‘under 7 seconds’ and to 186mph in ‘less than 17 seconds’. That final 0-186mph time is 35 per cent quicker than the McLaren F1, although its top speed of 218mph is a lot slower.

What we also learn is that there will be just 375 McLaren P1s built – that’s 124 fewer than there will be of the new Ferrari F150 – in order to keep ‘exclusivity’ and all P1s will come with a comprehensive spec as standard, with only the option of digging really deep for McLaren Special Operations to really rack up the price.

Talking of price, the McLaren P1 will cost $1,150,000 in the US and £866,000 in the UK, weighs in at 1400kg, is just a touch longer and wider than the 12C (although it’s 300mm longer that the F1 and weighs 250kg more).

McLaren has finally revealed production photos of the P1, which has changed little from the P1 Concept – just the addition of LTR ducts ahead of each of the front wheels - and have painted it in Volcano Yellow, presumably to stand out against the Ferrari F150 when they go head to head in Geneva next week.

More on the McLaren P1 next week from Geneva.
