McLaren Special Operations (MSO) P1 and 650 S Spider Pebble Beach debut

It may be Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations in the news at the moment, but McLaren’s own Special Operations has been around since 2011, creating extreme examples of McLaren’s cars for deep-pocketed customers. And they’re back with two new MSO specials for this month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The most impressive of the two MSO cars is, of course, a special edition of the already very special McLaren P1.

The McLaren P1 MSO doesn’t get any more power (not that it needs it), but it does get some extensive cosmetic titivation.

The grilles at the front get a silver finish and sits below the gloss carbon fibre bumper, there’s a McLaren Orange speedmark on the bonnet and the carbon and orange highlights extend further around the P1.

The bodywork gets a Stirling Grey paint job, the brake calipers get a heritage finish, the alloys are finished in the body color and there’s an orange ‘P1′ logo sitting on the leading edge of the rear wheelarch – just like the P1 test mules.

There’s also a nopd to the iconic McLaren F1 with the heat shields and exhaust finished in 24ct gold, the back spoiler gets a gloss black finish on top and bare carbon fibre below and a bespoke aluminium grill is fitted above the carbon fibre bumper.

Inside, the P1 MSO is swathed in Alcantara and carbon fibre, the carbon shell racing seats get four-point harnesses, there’s stone grey binding and stitching, McLaren Orange accents and satin-nickel finish on the air vents.

The more accessible MSO is the McLaren 650 S Spider, put together by McLaren Newport Beach and Frank Stephenson, which is based on the MSO 650S with its styling upgrades and satin-finished carbon fibre.

The MSO 650S gets a Cerulean Blue paint job, chrome on the exhaust finishers and 10-spoke Super lightweight alloys.

The inside is finished in carbon black leather with blue stitching with a McLaren Speedmark stitched in to the headrests, carbon fibre sill panels, satin lacquered carbon fibre trim and a dedication plaque signed by Frank Stephenson.

The two new McLaren Special Operations cars will add additional glitz and interest to what already promises to be an impressive McLaren showing at Pebble Beach with the debut of the McLaren P1 GTR.
