Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo at 2013 Los Angeles Motor Show

Mercedes wowed the LA fashionistas with a cool concept car built in partnership with PlayStation 3 racing game Gran Turismo 6. The new Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo imagines how a super sports car could look in future - think the SLS redrawn for 2020.

Finished in a stunning, classic Merc liquid silver paint job, the long dimensions of the Merc Gran Turismo are cartoon exaggerated and all the better for it. It's a mix of wild concept car for the gaming generation, with the odd nod to classic Mercs of yore, not least the 300 SL of 1952.

The doors rise up in gullwing fashion, naturally, and you'll see them for yourself - in virtual form - in December 2013, when the new Vision Gran Turismo series of cars are released for the computer driving game.

Nominally powered by the AMG bi-turbo V8, Mercedes quotes outputs of 585hp and 590lb ft of torque. And with a vaguely ludicrous eight exhausts pipes out back, we reckon this show car would sound absolutely fantastic if it weren't merely a scale model.

If next year's Mercedes SLS successor - a new, cheaper sports car to rival the Porsche 911 - takes even a fraction of the style of the Vision Gran Turismo, then we'll be very pleased indeed.

Definitely one of the outrageously fun sports car concepts at the LA show.
