Mercedes-Benz unveils the SLS AMG GT Final Edition
Wed, 20 Nov 2013
Mercedes calls it the grand finale, saying the SLS AMG GT Final Edition brings the SLS AMG GT lineup to an end. The car is being shown simultaneously at the LA and Tokyo motor shows. Just 350 will be built, each numbered on the center console. They're set to go on sale in March in both coupe and roadster form. Once the 350 are built, production of the SLS AMG model series will come to an end. So if you want any kind of SLS AMG, now's the time.
AMG has set the Final Edition apart with an exposed carbon fiber hood with central air outlet, carbon-fiber front and rear splitters, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and matte paint. AMG says the hood's air outlet helps dissipate engine heat, increases front-axle downforce and improves coefficient of drag.
Under that hood sits AMG's 6.3-liter V8 engine producing 583 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, good enough for a 3.6-second 0-60 time or, if you prefer, 124 mph arrives in 11.2 seconds. The top speed is 197 mph (electronically limited). That oughta be enough.
The engine is mated to AMG's seven-speed dual clutch. There are four programs and launch control. The adaptive suspension has sport and sport plus modes.
Inside, Benz's Designo leather has a diamond-stitch pattern on the seats and doors, black with contrasting silver stitching. High-gloss carbon fiber trim is standard, as is the Alcantara steering wheel. Want some options? Chose among carbon fiber exterior mirrors and engine compartment covers, more carbon fiber trim inside, carbon brakes and a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system.
