Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe (2012): Official
Sun, 20 Mar 2011Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe - it's official
You probably don’t have to be an out and out petrolhead to know that Mercedes had an AMG version of the recently revealed C-Class Coupe up its sleeve.
We’ve been expecting a reveal any time soon but, just to keep us awake on a Sunday, Mercedes has released the first photos and details this morning ahead of the official reveal at the New York Motor Show.
So welcome to the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe.
And really, there’s not an awful lot to say. Which you may find surprising. After all, the C63 AMG Coupe is a properly quick, beautifully finished, well-made and very desirable smaller Mercedes. Something we’d happily eulogise over normally.
Maybe it’s because it’s Sunday, or maybe it’s because anything there is to say about the C63 AMG Coupe comes under the heading of the new Mercedes C-Class or the new Mercedes C-Class Coupe or the new Mercedes C63 AMG.
Because the C63 AMG Coupe is a coupe version of the new C-Class. Even closer than that, it’s a coupe version of the new C63 AMG. It’s also the performance version of the new C-Class Coupe. All of which are detailed here already.
However, it would be churlish to just point you elsewhere on Cars UK for every measly morsel of detail, so the least we can do is give you the basics.
The C63 AMG Coupe will debut at New York in April. It gets the naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8 rather than the newer 5.5 litre turbo, but still does 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds.
It develops 445bhp – 474bhp if you opt for the Development Pack – and you get to drive that through the Speedshift multi-clutch seven-speed automatic ‘box. Pretty much the same as the C63 AMG. As are the tweaks to suspension and trim – inside and out.
All of which should make the C63 AMG Coupe a properly brilliant C63 AMG for those who want two fewer doors.
For some reason.
