Mercedes G 65 AMG & G 63 AMG arrive with G Class updates
Wed, 11 Apr 20122012 Mercedes G Class now includes V8 G63 & V12 G65
Mercedes-Benz reveals the updated G Class for 2012 with two new AMG models – the V8 Mercedes G 63 AMG and V12 Mercedes G 65 AMG.
The Mercedes G Class may have been around since dinosaurs walked the planet, but Mercedes don’t want to let it go and with every new tweak they make the G Class gets even more desirable. Which defies logic.
Logic is also defied with the 2012 G Class updates with the introduction not just of the Mercedes G 63 AMG with the potent AMG V8, but the arrival of a Mercedes G 65 AMG. Yes, the G Class is going V12.
Mercedes has revealed a complete range of G Class models from the G 350 BlueTEC through the G 500 Cabriolet on up to the AMG models. But in the UK we’ll probably only see the G 350 and the G 63 – the chances of Mercedes building a RHD G 65 AMG seem slight.
Most of the changes wrought by Mercedes on the latest G Class are on the interior with a redesigned instrument cluster with a colour screen between two round dials. COMAND is standard with infotainment, SatNav and Internet access.
New options for the G Class include DISTRONIC Plus, Blind Spot Assist, Parktronic with reversing camera and Trailer Stability Assist. You can also dip in to the Designo option list for more individuality.
Outside the G C lass has had little to differentiate it from its predecessors – as you would expect – but it does now get a set of LED running lights and the G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG get an AMG grill, new bumpers, bigger air intakes and 20″ alloys with red brake calipers.
We have no UK prices for the 2012 Mercedes G Class, but the German price list shows the range starting at €85,311 for the G 350 BlueTEC and a rather steep €264,180 for the G 65 AMG.
