Mercedes SL 65 AMG unveiled in New York

The new Mercedes SL 65 AMG has been revealed at the New York Auto Show and Mercedes are doing a 45th anniversary special to celebrate.

It’s just a couple of weeks since the new Mercedes SL 65 AMG was revealed and now, with the New York Auto Show under way, the range-topping SL has had its first public outing.

To celebrate the launch of the 2013 SL 65 AMG and the 45th anniversary of the first SL, Mercedes has announced a special edition SL 65 to soak up a few more pennies from those already willing to pay getting on for £200k for an SL – the Mercedes SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary Edition.

The Anniversary Edition SL gets exclusive designo magno graphite paint and splashes of carbon fibre for the mirrors and spoilers, with the engine cover also gets a sprinkling of carbon fibre and aluminium.

The SL 65 45th sits on special titanium grey AMG alloys, there’s a sports exhaust system, bespoke leather seats and matte carbon fibre for the trim. Goodies include the surprisingly soothing Airscarf in the seats and a Bang and Olufsen sound system with COMAND infotainment centre. The STYLE Exclusive designo leather upholstery is in titanium grey pearl/ginger beige.

Power stays the same in the SL 65 AMG “45th Anniversary” as it is in the regular SL65. But with 621bhp and 738lb/ft of torque on offer delivering a 0-62mpg of 3.9 seconds it’s not as if you need more.

Mercedes are building just 45 examples of the SL 65 45th Anniversary and we’re waiting to hear if any will be offered in the UK.

The new Mercedes SL 65 AMG – and the 45th Anniversary Edition – go on sale at the end of the year.
