Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster: New York debut
Sat, 26 Mar 2011The Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster in the 2011 Super Bowl Advert
It’s been quite a long time coming, the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.
The Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe made its debut at Frankfurt in 2009, complete with Gullwing doors and a two-fingered salute to McLaren.
And not long after that we had a photo of its topless sibling – the SLS AMG Roadster – out playing. Which led us to suggest that the SLS Roadster might be ready to take a bow as early as Geneva 2010. Which it didn’t.
The SLS Roadster didn’t even manage an appearance at Geneva 2011, but we’re hearing that Mercedes has lined up the topless SLS for a public debut at the rapidly approaching New York Motor Show, just a few weeks away.
Which does make a lot of sense. The US is the biggest market place for topless Mercedes and the SLS Roadster is likely to go down a storm in the Land of the Free, with its huge power and wind-in-the-syrup setup.
But what also points us in the direction of the New York Motor Show for the topless SLS to bow in is this year’s Super Bowl advert from Mercedes which, if you looked hard, featured the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster in the closing sequence.
The SLS Roadster was joined by the 2011 CL, the 2011 C63 AMg Coupe and the 2011 SLK. All have now been revealed. Apart from the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.
Ergo, the SLS AMG Roadster will arrive at the 2011 New York Motor Show.
Probably.
