Mickey Thompson: A life remembered
Wed, 28 Apr 2010Come celebrate the life and fast times of motorsports legend Mickey Thompson with the people who knew him best: his son, Danny Thompson; his first wife and Danny's mother, Judy Thompson Creach; fellow hot-rod hero Alex Xydias; drag racer Tom Jobe, and turbocharger mad scientist Gale Banks.
The event will come in the form of a panel discussion at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif., on May 15 at 2 p.m. The incomparable silver-tongued Dave McClellan will serve as moderator.
The panel will take place amidst the museum's all-new Mickey Thompson display, which features the greatest and best collection of Thompson race cars ever assembled, lead by the magnificent, four-engined, 32-cylinder Challenger 1 in which Thompson became the first American to go 400 mph.
The panel discussion costs only $20, all of which goes directly to the museum. If you can think of a better cause than that--well, maybe there are a few, but this one goes to the museum, and we all ought to support that, and where else are you going to hear all these great tales for only a double sawbuck?
The best thing about these panel discussions is that they usually draw a host of other great names from motorsports history. Who knows who will show up this time?
