Millionth Range Rover presented to Jezza for Help for Heroes
Sun, 07 Nov 2010Jezza gets the millionth Range Rover together with Lance Corporal Matt Croucher and Private Derek Derenalagi
It’s a very large number of Range Rovers, 1,000,000. Although you do have to remember that is a production number over a forty year period. Still, long time or not it’s a milestone for the first proper luxury SUV to achieve, and in its fortieth year of production just to make the maths nice and easy – 25,000 a year.
And you can’t just have the millionth Range Rover roll off the production line without some sort of fanfare. And if you can engineer the fanfare to do some good in to the process, so much the better. So the news that Land Rover has donated the 1,000,000th Range Rover to the Help for Heroes Charity where it should raise £100k+ when it gets auctioned off is the ‘Do some Good’ bit of the celebration sorted.
The ‘Fanfare’ bit was a bit convoluted, but it’s got a chunk of column and screen inches which probably amount to a greater worth to Land Rover than the donated Range Rover. But that matters not a jot; the donation is hugely aposite and they could probably have got as much coverage from a PR trumpet-blowing. So well done LR.
The convoluted fanfare consisted of Land Rover MD Phil Popham driving the RR down to Earls court in a convoy of Land Rover product – including the very first Range Rover produced forty years ago. The millionth Rangie was then presented to Jezza at Earls Court (he’s a Help for Heroes Patron) where the TG boys are busy doing the Top Gear Live Show.
Nice story – everyone’s a winner.
