Mitsubishi ASX at Geneva
Tue, 19 Jan 2010The new Mitsubishi ASX Crossover will launch at the Geneva Motor Show
Another new Mitsubishi 4×4, I hear you say? Well, yes and no. We told you recently about the Mitsubishi RVR, Mitsubishi’s new offering in the small Crossover/SUV sector – think Ford Kuga or VW Tiguan or Hyundai ix35. Based on the Mitsubishi cX Concept from 2007 – and first revealed as the Mitsubishi Compact Crossover – it is Mitsubishi’s attempts to recreate itself as a maker of eco-friendly cars instead of planet killing 4x4s and bonkers mad hot saloons.
So another car in the mould of the RVR from Mitsubishi then? No. This is the Mitsubishi RVR, it’s just that Mitsubishi think ASX sounds more palatable to Western buyers than RVR. Or perhaps they don’t want people calling it the Mitsubishi Rover. Who knows.
Still, whatever the name, the Mitsubishi ASX will be a well-built and able compact crossover, SUV thingy when it goes on sale in the UK and Europe from the Spring. Coming with a range of engines which will include an all new 1.8 litre turbo diesel featuring stop-start to polish the fluffy bunny halo.
And frankly that’s about all Mitsubishi have told us. It’s a Mitsubishi RVR with another name. But we’ll get more detail as Geneva approaches.
