Mitsubishi Shogun Black launches
Tue, 03 Jan 2012Mitsubishi Shogun Black revealed
Mitsubishi has added a limited edition Shogun at the top of the range – the Mitsubishi Shogun Black.
Recently we had the Mitsubishi ASX Black arrive with all the toys in Mitsubishi’s options box thrown at the compact SUV to produce a credible range-topper. And now Mitsubishi are pulling the same trick on the real-deal SUV with the reveal of the Mitsubishi Shogun Black.
As you would expect from a limited edition, the Shogun Black focuses on toys and style.
Outside, the Shogun Black gets a satin black grill, a new set of 20″ alloys and black treatment for the mirrors, door handles, roof, side steps, fog and headlight surrounds. Colour options are Frost White, Cool Silver, Diamond Black, Orient Red and Granite Brown.
Based on the Shogun SG4 spec, the Shogun Black also comes with SatNav, reversing camera, iPod connection, leather, auto lights and wipers, privacy glass, brake override and Mitsubishi’s Active Stability and Traction Control.
For all the glitz, the Shogun is still old-school and very capable. The Shogun Black is no Chelsea tractor, but is instead a proper mud-plugging full size SUV that can stand up and be counted against the very best off-roaders. And now with the latest Euro V lump it gets 197bhp, 305lb/ft of torque and best in class emissions.
At £41,999, the Shogun Black isn’t cheap (and it’s an extra £540 from metallic paint), but compared to the equivalent Discovery it’s good value. The Shogun doesn’t have the Disco’s on-road manners, but once you’re used to its traditional feel it’s a hugely appealing and reassuring drive.
The Mitsubishi Shogun Black is now on sale.
