The Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution for Gran Turismo 6 brought to life

The lines between reality and virtual reality are becoming ever more blurred as so much of our lives play out on line, and nowhere more so than with concept cars. The latest virtual reality car brought to some sort of real world life is the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution Vision Gran Turismo concept (much like the VW GTI Roadster we saw recently) which is being made available for Gran Turismo 6.

Sadly, the XR-PHEV Evolution is just a concept and isn’t intended to proclaim the future of the Mitsubishi EVO, even though it’s an enticing thought.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid powertrain using Mitsubishi’s S-AWC 4WD to put the power (a power output Mitsubishi hasn’t disclosed) to all four wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch ‘box.

Much more squat than any production Evo will ever be, the XR-PHEV Evolution gets a carbon fibre plastic reinforced (CFPR) body with an aggressive nose, huge wings and side skirts and a set of oversized 20″ alloys.

And although you won’t be able to pop off to your local Mitsubishi dealers and slap down a deposit for the XR-PHEV Evolution, you will be able to buy it for Gran Turismo 6.

And maybe Mitsubishi will realize the underpinnings of the XR-PHEV Evolution, ‘virtual or not, would be a fitting route for an Evo XI.
