More than 1,000 Porsche 911 to celebrate 50th anniversary at 2013 Silverstone Classic
Wed, 05 Jun 2013Classic Porsche 911s will be at the Silverstone Classic Anniversary Parde
Ferrari managed a record parade of 964 Ferraris at Ferrari’s 2012 Racing Days at Silverstone last year and now, with 2013 being the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Porsche 911, Silverstone are planning a parade of over 1,000 911s at this year’s Silverstone Classic.
Mind you, with over 800,000 Porsche 911s produced since the first 911 arrived in 1963, it will have been a lot easier to find 911s than it was Ferraris. In fact, it’s been so easy the applications to take part by 911 owners has been oversubscribed.
The anniversary parade at Silverstone will take place on 28th July as one of the highlights of this year’s Classic, with 911s from all seven generations taking part including many of the most famous models including Carrera, RS, RSR, GT, Speedster, Targa and Turbo models and Derek Bell and David Piper will be taking part too.
Event organiser, Nick Wigley, said:
Originally we feared achieving 911 Porsche 911s might have been a somewhat over ambitious and idealistic target – but with Porsche Club Great Britain’s invaluable input, we’ve sailed passed that goal with eight weeks to spare
It’s terrific that so many 911 enthusiasts and Porsche Club Members will be able to join us for what’s going to be a fantastic birthday party; to be marking such an important automotive milestone in such record breaking style is what we always set out to accomplish. It’s going to be a mind-boggling experience no Porsche fan will want to miss.
If you want to go and watch – even though you can no longer take part – the 2013 Silverstone Classic is on from 26-28 July and you can still grab tickets from the Silverstone Classic website.
