The new Volvo V40 leaks ahead of a Geneva debut

We have the first photo of the new Volvo V40 – leaked from a Swedish Car Magazine –  ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

We had a tease for the all new Volvo V40 back in December (actually, there has been another since, but it was nothing but a black shape so we ignored it) and we’ve had spy video of the V40 too (although we still thought it would be the V30 then). And now we get what is almost certainly the first photos of the Volvo V40 that will debut at Geneva.

The photo above is a scan from a Swedish car magazine (print media - almost always the source of image leaks) that shows a good looking V40 that’s slightly shorter than the current V50 (which is well past its sell by date) and is said to come with the option of 1.4 and 1.8 litre engines and even a 4WD option.

Volvo are taking aim at the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 – and the VW Golf too – and the V40 looks to be another style winner in the way the appealing V60 is. What we’re hoping is that Volvo will se fit to produce a halo car for the V40 range – a V40 Polestar – with a nice warm turbo and 4WD.

With luck we’ll find out more before the new V40 arrives next month in Switzerland.
