New Baby Jaguar Revealed – Bertone B99 Concept

Bertone's take on a new Baby Jaguar - the Jaguar Bertone B99 Concept

Earlier today there were teasers of a new Baby Jag designed and built by Bertone. But it was one of those daft ‘It’s all dark but it’s all there’ images. We did think we might run it later if we had time. But now we don’t need to.

Jalopnik has the photo above which it believes is from the same set as this morning’s teaser, but it shows the whole car and has come from the pages of Autocar.

The implication seems to be that this is a design commissioned by Jaguar. We really can’t see it. It seems to be a re-hash of everything Jaguar has worked so hard to escape – the designs of the past.

This Jaguar Bertone B99 may be Bertone’s take on what a future small Jaguar should be but, if it is, it perhaps explains why Bertone are struggling and Jaguar are thriving.

Maybe it’s just us. Maybe this floats your boat. And maybe Jaguar has commissioned Bertone to produce this combination of a 1970s XJC and an X-Type. Despite having a design team in-house that’s at the top of their game. A team that produced the XF and the XJ and made the XK cool.

A team lead by Ian Callum. A team we’re certain Bertone would do anything to acquire. A team that doesn’t need to parody the past for inspiration.

Unlike Bertone.
