New Ford C-Max & Grand-C-Max double sales in Europe

Ford has revealed that the new C-Max and Grand C-Max have doubled their sales and market share in Europe in the last twelve months.
Although it’s two years since Ford revealed the C-Max and Grand C-Max at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009, it took another year for the new Fords to hit the market. But since the C-Max duo hit showrooms in late 2010, they’ve certainly made up for lost time.
Ford say that in their first twelve months on sale in Europe, the C-Max and Grand C-Max have sold 135,000, more than double the sales for the old C-Max in 2010. But that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.
The old C-Max was a rather ancient car, and sales had been tailing off for years. Not only that, but all there was to choose from was the regular C-Max – no Grand C-Max in the old model. The addition of the Grand C-Max in the 2011 model accounts for a third of C-Max sales.
And the new C-Max is also a very decent car. The first Ford to use the new global C-segment platform which underpins the new Focus and Kuga, it’s a good car, in standard configuration or in 7-seat Grand configuration. Prices are decent too, with the C-Max starting at under £18k and the Grand at under £20k.
But for Ford, the icing on the sales figures is the doubling of market share in the segment and the fact that 60 poer cent of sales have been from buyers new to Ford.
