Mon, 29 Sep 2014New 2014 Ford Mondeo Price & Specs – costs from £20,795
The new Ford Mondeo is almost the old Ford Mondeo, so long has it taken to get it ready to roll in the UK and Europe after Ford decided to switch production to Valencia. Bit ‘t’s finally gone on sale, more than two years after the US got their version of the Mondeo. The first European car to get Ford’s new C-D platform, the new Mondeo had a chassis tuned for best-in-class driving dynamics (say Ford) and steering weight and direction that matches the ‘Comfort’, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ settings.
Engine options include the 1.5 litre and 2.0 litre EcoBoost engines, 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre ECOnetic engines and the four-door Mondeo Hybrid with a 2.0 litre petrol engine and electric motor powered by a 1.4kWh lithium ion battery. Later, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine will join the range as will all-wheel-drive variants.
New toys and technology include Pedestrian Detection – which can work the brakes if it senses a pedestrian in the way and the driver doesn’t react – Adaptive Cruise. Active Braking, LED headlights with Adaptive Lighting, Active Park Assist, City Stop collision avoidance and Lance Keeping Aid.
There’s also the first outing in Europe for Ford’s inflatable rear seatbelt technology. power adjustable steering column, power tailgate and MyKey to keep the kids from going daft if you let them borrow the car.
Inside, the new Mondeo gets a digital analogue instrument cluster, soft-touch instrument panel, high quality materials, smart front seats trhat offer comfort and support despite being thinner to allow more leg room for rear passengers and a sporty ‘cockpit’ environment.
It all sounds very good, and we have no doubt the Mondeo will be a far better car than the likely sales will show. It’s just a shame it’s taken far too long to arrive.
The new Ford Mondeo is now on sale and costs from £20,795.
