New Kia Rio 3-door arrives
Thu, 26 Jan 2012New Kia Rio 3-door arrives for £600 less than the 5-door
The new Kia Rio three-door sees the Rio arrive in three door guise for the first time. Same engines and options as the five-door only a bit cheaper.
Kia revealed the three-door Rio at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and has now announced its arrival in the UK, with expectations the sportier-looking three-door Rio will account for up to 25 per cent of sales.
What you get from the three-door Rio is exactly what you get from the five-door, you just lose a pair of doors and save £600.
That means a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol lumps are the 1.25 litre Kappa with 83bhp, 89lb/ft of torque and 56.5mpg, and the 1.4 litre Gamma with 107bhp, 101lb/ft of torque and 51.4mpg.
If you’re looking for frugality in your new Rio, the diesel options are probably more appealing. The 1.1 litre CRDi has 74bhp and 125lb/ft of torque and delivers an impressive 78.5mpg with emissions of just 98g/km, ideal for urban motoring. It’s bigger brother, the 1.4 litre CRDi manages a heftier 89bhp and 162lb/ft of torque with 70.6mpg, although it fails to break the 100g/km, emitting 105g/km.
Basic kit is the same as the five door Rio, with MP3 and CD, ESC, EBD, EBA and hill start. Move up to the Rio 1 Air and you get AirCon, the Rio 2 adds 16″ alloys, Fogs, cooled glovebox, heated and folding mirrors and leather on the steering wheel and gear knob.
Top of the tree Rio 3 gets 17″ alloys, LED running lights at the front and LED lights at the back, Climate, auto wipers, Cruise and heated front seats.
The three door Kia Rio ’1′ starts at £9,995 and the range tops out at £14,295 for the 1.4 CRDi ‘3’ EcoDynamics.
