New Mazda CX-7 – UK details and price
Mon, 12 Oct 2009MAzda CX-7 2.2 D arrives in the UK in November
It’s a decent car – the Mazda CX-7 – it just doesn’t sell all that wonderfully well. A bit like the Mazda3, which should really be up there with the Focus and Golf in sales terms but isn’t. With the Mazda3 there wasn’t that much to fix, but the CX-7, very competent though it was, had a fault or two.
The interior of the last CX-7 was pretty drab, but Mazda has had a tweak and a play and it seems better. It has such comforts as Climate, Leather, Bose and Bluetooth. The existing engine lineup wasn’t all that enthralling, but the new 2.2 litre diesel in the 2010 version should fix that. Although if the diesel doesn’t do it for you you’re stuffed – it’s the only option.
When we revealed initial details on the 2010 CX-7 we said the new 2.2 litre diesel looked a big improvement but Mazda hadn’t given us any real detail on the engine. Well, now they have. It delivers 170bhp with a 0-60mph of 11.3 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. So you’ll have to be careful your hair doesn’t set on fire or your organs get detached at that sort of warp drive. Average economy is 37.7 mpg and emissions are 199g/km. Oh, dear.
But it may be a lot better than it seems. The CX-7 is very well equipped, and the 295ft/lbs of torque that’s available from 2000rpm will probably make the CX-7 perform a lot better in the real world than it looks on paper.
The CX-7 2.2 D goes on sale in the UK on 1st November at £25,785. We’ll reserve judgement on its on-road abilities until Mazda send us one. And if you want all the bumph you can check it out in the 2010 Mazda CX-7 Press Release.
