New Mercedes S Class Coupe caught on video ahead of production debut
Thu, 12 Dec 2013New Mercedes S Class Coupe caught on video ahead of production debut
The new Mercedes S Class Coupe – the coupe version of the 2014 Mercedes S Class and a replacement for the old Mercedes CL – arrived as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. And it looked very good. Now, with a debut of the production version of the S-Class Coupe likely to arrive at next month’s Detroit Auto Show, we have a quick look at the new S-Class Coupe on-road in a short spy video, albeit covered in the de rigeur swirly black and white camouflage.
But from what we can see it doesn’t look like the production version of the S Class Coupe will stray very far from the looks of the Concept (although its interior is likely to be very much a take on the S Class rather than the more concept interior we saw at Frankfurt). And that’s a good thing.
It’s a good thing because the old CL never really stood out as a special car. It was taking on cars like the Bentley Continental GT but never looked anything more than a half-hearted effort to make a two-door coupe out of the last version of the S Class. But the new S Class Coupe looks like a proper standalone car.
The concept version of the S Class Coupe came with Mercedes twin-turbo 4.7 litre V8 with 449bhp but there’s little doubt the new S Class Coupe will also come as an S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG too.
Which could be very appealing.
