New Morgan Aero Coupe, Plus 8 & revised Roadster at Geneva
Tue, 07 Feb 2012The New Morgan Aero Coupe arrives at Geneva 2012
The Morgan Aero Coupe – a coupe version of the Morgan Aero Supersports – will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Morgan may have been around since the stone age, but they don’t exactly churn out new models by the bucket load. That looks set to change at the Geneva Motor show in March as Morgan reveal three new models. Well, that’s ‘new’ in the Morgan sense of the word.
Perhaps the most high profile will be a coupe version of the Aero Supersports, which does what it says on the tin – adds a roof to the Aero.
The Aero Coupe will be constructed entirely from aluminium, with a chassis based on the GT3 Aero track car. It will get a 4.8 litre BMW V8, which delivers 367bhp and 370lb/ft of torque and a 0-62mph of 4.5 seconds. The interior is typical modern Morgan, with Ash hardwood surrounding the cockpit and doors, twin needle stitched leather with suede effect panels and Pressure Point reclining seats.
The BMW V8 is mated to a six-speed auto ‘box with Sport and Auto modes. In Sport the engine revs to 6500rpm before changing, and blips the throttle on down changes. The Aero Coupe can hit 170mph and has a power to weight ratio of 320bhp per tonne.
Also on offer will be a revived Morgan Plus 8, sitting between the Aero at the top and the Roadster below in the Morgan range. It too will get the BMW V8 and aluminium construction. There will also be an electric concept version of the Plus 8 – the Morgan Plus-e – which is a pure plug-in EV, although Morgan aren’t letting on what the motor or battery capacity is.
Finally, there will be a revised Morgan Roadster with the 3,7 litre, 260bhp engine from Ford’s Mustang V6.
This must be the busiest Morgan has been for years.
